Draft of website

November 27, 2008

The idea here is having an open discussion/chat for the users to debate. Every day there will be a new topic to talk about, and users can freely share their thoughts live with everyone.

I have tried coming up with a design solution that keeps the spirit of a physical magazine alive online! The system allows the user to navigate to any part of the magazine with a few clicks (just like regular online magazines). Every page whether going back or forth will fold as a physical page would.

Here are three screenshots of a page turning (ad spaces are placed within the pages of the magazine, the online presence allows for more interactive ads).

I will soon be adding a lot of the process that I have forgotten to upload to my blog. There are several reasons behind that, but those are neither here not there 😉

P!nk – Stupid Girls

P!nk’s Stupid Girls music basically sums up how this celebrity craze that has taken over is effecting girls.

Change in the horizon

October 29, 2008

Alright,
Things have change yet again 😉
It’s an evolution of thought after all!

My focus now is why kids look up to celebrities.

Sex, violence and glamor sells, and over the past several decades, big companies have discovered that and are always looking for more ways to sell, sell, sell. Not taking a moment to realize that the direction we’re heading is extremely cloudy and dark.

What I mean is that in the past, when you asked kids what they wanted to be when they grew up, their responses usually were: An Astronaut, A Policeman, Princess, King, Queen, President, Fireman. All of which were very positive. And if you ask kids today what they want to be when they grow up, most of them say: An Actor, A Model, A Celebrity, A Superhero. Now those might sound cute and all, but they are setting themselves up for failure.

The chances of success are extremely low for those jobs. One might argue that what how many kids have actually become astronauts? Very few, but the moral of the story is that kids who had set a high goal for themselves are actually more successful than the ones who wanted to be an actor.

Here are two very interesting video’s that are very relevant. The Pussycat Dolls video, essentially is 100% influencing kids that they will get attention when/if they become famous. And the Bratz babies cartoon, is simply disturbing! 😉

The Lyrics that are a little bit disturbing :S

Now I’ve got a confession
When I was young I wanted attention
And I promised myself that I’d do anything
Anything at all for the boys to notice me

But I ain’t complaining
We all wanna be famous
So go ahead and say what you wanna say
You know what it’s like to be nameless
Want them to know what your name is
‘Cause see when I was younger I would say

When I grow up
I wanna be famous
I wanna be a star
I wanna be in movies

When I grow up
I wanna see the world
Drive nice cars
I wanna have Groupies

When I grow up
Be on TV
People know me
Be on magazines

When I grow up
Fresh and clean
Number one chick when I step out on the scene

Where I am.

October 22, 2008

Ok so this is where I am.

My ultimate goal is to raise awareness so that parents give their children more responsibility. Here’s a quick example of seeing responsibility in action. You compare a Beverly Hills bimbo (who has been given everything they’ve wanted all their life) to someone who was exposed to responsibility at a young age, the second person almost every time comes out to be more mature!

So basically digging deeper, the message here is, “Don’t Spoil Your Kids”
Your average white collar parent, who is busy with their own life, spoils the kid by buying everything/anything the kid wants.

I will be designing a campaign where it targets such parents, and just raises the question. Side note, I will simply be communicating rather than teaching, something that was clearly established earlier 😉

Now the million dollar question is, How?
